SALON ART & DESIGN

Our installation in the Historic Library Room at The Armory - designed by Louis C. Tiffany, Associated Artists with Stanford White - consists of a series of stelae built as towering plaster and canvas monoliths. Draped, collapsing, soft and amorphous, they serve as rigorous experiments rooted in material culture both ancient and modern. Surfaces are encrusted and embellished in mirors, metals, canvas, stone and tooled marble dust plaster and play against the formality of the space's wood vitrines and stained-glass windows. Like carved marble worn by time and touch, the sculptures serve founder Yolande Milan Batteau's continued investigation into art for architecture.
